Sustainability and Environmental Policy

Sustainability & Environmental Policy

Organisation: Craig Butterworth Accounting · Last updated:

At Craig Butterworth Accounting, we recognise that our operations have an impact on the environment and we are committed to reducing that impact wherever possible. Sustainable practices are essential for protecting the planet and creating long-term value for our clients, employees and communities.

Scope

This policy applies to all employees, partners, contractors and offices, and to our interactions with clients and suppliers.

Our Commitments

1. Reducing Waste

  • Adopt digital-first processes to minimise paper use and physical storage.
  • Reuse and recycle office materials; dispose of e-waste responsibly through certified recyclers.

2. Energy Efficiency

  • Use energy-efficient equipment and settings (e.g., power-saving modes, automatic screen sleep).
  • Monitor energy use and identify opportunities to reduce consumption in offices.

3. Sustainable Procurement

  • Consider environmental credentials and lifecycle impact when selecting products and services.
  • Prefer suppliers with clear sustainability commitments and responsible packaging.

4. Travel and Transport

  • Prioritise remote meetings and digital collaboration to avoid unnecessary travel.
  • When travel is essential, encourage low-carbon options and car-sharing where practical.

5. Awareness and Engagement

  • Engage colleagues in sustainability initiatives and invite ideas for improvement.
  • Promote responsible, low-carbon choices with clients and partners where appropriate.

6. Continuous Improvement

  • Review this policy periodically and set measurable goals for year-on-year improvement.
  • Track progress and share updates internally; adjust actions based on results.

Measuring Progress

We will monitor practical indicators and seek steady improvement over time, such as:

  • Percentage reduction in paper purchased/used.
  • Share of client engagements delivered fully digitally.
  • Office energy consumption per person.
  • Proportion of meetings held remotely vs. in-person travel.

Governance

  • Partners and managers lead by example and ensure this policy is put into practice.
  • All colleagues are responsible for following the policy and suggesting improvements.
  • Non-compliance may be addressed under our standard procedures.
